FEMN is co-producing a feminist music festival: FEmn Fest
FEMINIST MUSIC FESTIVAL ANNOUNCED IN MINNESOTA
Women-identified performers and organizers
September 15-17, 2017, A Barn in Wrenshall MN
On Sunday, a new Minnesota music festival was announced: FEmn Fest (fem-n fest). It is the premiere (and only) female-focused festival in Minnesota. The TBD line-up will feature women-identified performers, feminist workshops, and more for three full days.
Women are historically under-represented in music festivals. To make that fact worse, they're the biggest audience. Organizers seek to address and change this. Co-producer and musician, Kat Fox says, "The ratio of men to women in the music industry is fucking pitiful. Women make up less than (roughly) 10% of festival lineups across the board. There are way too many talented women in the world for this to be the standard."
Organizers from the music and events scene in Duluth, MN are banding together to make this happen. Even though the team is Duluth-based, as Co-producer, Abigail Mlinar says, "this festival will have a wide draw. We anticipate the backing of the entire state of Minnesota to come enjoy the unique and powerful event." With experience ranging from the Homegrown Music Festival in Duluth, to the Tall Ships festivals around the country, this three day festival is sure to be a success.
The festival is set to take place at a barn in Wrenshall Minnesota. The organizers are seeking sponsors, performers, partners, and venders. Tickets will be launched in the coming months. All interested parties are encouraged to follow FEmn Fest's social media accounts for updates.
